What is fractional laser treatment?

Over the years the skin is damaged by both environmental (sun, pollution) and behavioural (stress, fatigue, smoking) factors, keeping people from looking their best.  Today, Smart Xide hot dot fractional laser treatment offers the most advanced micro laser restoration treatment – one that actually awakens the subsurface cells so they revitalize themselves naturally, returning skin to its original beauty.

The Hot Dot laser is used to treat multiple skin conditions, including age/sun spots, acne scarring, melasma and other types of pigmentation, and eye wrinkles (crow’s feet). It’s safe, easy and delivers remarkable results. Hot dot laser treatment is different. It is the only laser system that safely penetrates the skin down to the dermis. The result is natural stimulation of new collagen with minimal downtime and risks associated with traditional ablative treatments. The Hot Dot laser provides a highly effective, predictable and safe treatment for patients.

How does fractional laser work?

Hot Dot laser treatment repairs damaged skin by treating only a small fraction of skin at a time, leaving the area surrounded by unaffected, healthy tissue. This ‘fractional’ treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthy, tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.

The Hot Dot laser passes through the top layer of skin reaching the dermis below to create thousands of tiny, microscopic areas of thermal injury that stimulate the body’s own wound healing response, notably new collagen production and replacement of damaged skin surfaces with new epidermal skin.

How many fractional laser treatments are needed?

Hot Dot laser treatment is performed using topical anaesthesia in the doctor's clinic. A typical facial treatment can be completed in around 30 minutes to 2 hours. The treatment is suitable for face, neck, décolletage and hands. Deeper treatments require sedation and local anaesthetic. Lighter treatments need only anaesthetic cream. While results vary from patient to patient, results are typically achieved in an average 2-3 treatment sessions spaced about 2-4 months apart and many patients notice a marked improvement sooner.

Fractional laser recovery time

Hot Dot laser treatment creates much less redness. The amount of redness depends on the depth of the treatment and healing time can be as short as only a few days for a light resurfacing. As with all laser treatments it is wise to cover up and wear a hat and sunscreen for the short to medium term. Because the laser is so precise and predictable complications are uncommon. Infections can occur in rare cases. The appropriate medications may be necessary at the time of the procedure to offset the risk of cold sores. If you have a history of ‘cold sores’ please let us know.
