What are wrinkles?

Wrinkles, like the fine lines of the crow’s feet, are superficial markings on the skin usually formed by muscle movements and/or gravity effects and can be thought of as a crease in the skin.

Popular areas for treatment:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Fine lines under or surrounding the eyes
  • Frown lines (between the brows)
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Forehead wrinkles

Treatment costs:

The cost for anti-wrinkle injections is based on the amount of “units” used, unique concerns and desired result. The cost for any wrinkle reducing treatment is based upon the amount of product used and the desired result of the patient. Some patients prefer a more subtle look than others, so price can vary. Our Doctors would be more than happy to discuss their recommendations with you at your initial consultation.

The goal is to achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance without looking 'overdone'.

What are wrinkle reducing treatments?

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used safely and successfully as a powerful wrinkle reducing treatments. The active ingredient in this product is a naturally occurring protein that relaxes tightened muscles. With careful placement, a more youthful appearance can be achieved while maintaining natural expression and character.

Wrinkle Reducing Treatment

The treatment works by blocking nerve stimulation to wrinkle-causing muscles, which prevents the muscle from contracting. As a result, the treatment can significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and can also help prevent the formation of new ones.

A few tiny injections are administered just under the skin, reducing nerve stimulation to the targeted muscles. The procedure usually takes about 10 minutes. This may vary depending on the number of areas being treated.

As men tend to have larger and stronger muscles, they often require more injections to achieve satisfactory results.

Who is a candidate for muscle relaxants?

Most men and women between 22 – 80 years are suitable candidates. For younger patients, the goal is prevention rather than treating anti-ageing concerns.

Wrinkle reducing treatments are not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. All patients are advised to avoid the use of aspirin, anti-inflamatory drugs or blood-thinning agents, unless they are medically required, for 2 weeks prior to treatment to minimise bruising.

What are the types of wrinkles?

There are two types of wrinkles: dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles are formed by repeated muscle contraction involved in facial expressions such as frowning, smiling and laughing. Static wrinkles are formed by decreased skin elasticity and breakdown of collagen, loss of fat volume and the pull of gravity.

Where facial volume has been depleted with age, augmenting techniques such as volumising treatments and fat transfers can be used in combination with wrinkle reducing treatments to achieve an overall, non-surgical facial rejuvenation.

Are wrinkle reducing treatments painful?

Generally, no anaesthetic is required. The needles are very fine and only a small volume of the product is needed, so the procedure is typically only associated with mild discomfort. If the patient is particularly concerned, the practitioner can numb the skin over the area before administering the injection.

Risks related to wrinkle reducing treaments:

Common side effects are generally restricted to minor temporary redness or bruising at the injection site. There is a very slight risk that it can cause a temporary weakness in nearby muscles, which may result in a slight drooping of an eyelid or eyebrow, which may last from one to six weeks. Occasionally patients may experience a slight headache or nausea.

Your wrinkle reducing treatment questions answered

A:

Hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating in areas including the underarms, face, palms and feet.  This condition is often accompanied by offensive body odour, along with obvious “wetness” and embarrassment.

The treatment uses muscle relaxants to temporarily block nerve impulses and restrict sweat glands. Post-treatment, sweating can decrease by up to 90% in the first 2 days with the full effect evident within 1 week.
