If good eating and exercise habits won’t budge your small unwanted fatty deposits, we want to help you renew your self-confidence and feel body positive through beautiful and natural looking cosmetic results.

Body contouring is about the best fit for you and your individual needs. If you’ve been thinking about liposuction or CoolTech, here are the differences and similarities so you can discuss them with your cosmetic surgeon.

What Is The Procedure?

Liposuction is a form of cosmetic surgery to reshape targeted areas of the body by removing stubborn deposits of subcutaneous fat. You might also see liposuction referred to as suction lipectomy or lipoplasty. This procedure can help change your shape by contouring or giving a proportionate appearance on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, arms, neck or under the chin.

CoolTech is one of the latest, safest and most effective non-surgical treatment designed for treating and eliminating localised pockets of fat located in various areas of the body permanently. CoolTech, also known as cryoliopolysis, uses advanced controlled cooling technology aimed at freezing fat and contouring the body. Liposuction has been around longer than CoolTech, which is a relatively new form of fat reduction treatment.

It’s important to remember that neither liposuction or CoolTech are weight loss methods or ways to remove cellulite. They’re designed to improve the way you feel about how you look by helping to sculpt areas of the body where extra fat tends to hold on.

Who Is This Procedure Recommended For?

Liposuction is most effective for healthy men and women with good skin elasticity. Therefore, older patients who may have diminished skin elasticity may not achieve the same results as younger patients with naturally tighter skin.

CoolTech might be best for you if you have pinch-able fat however this procedure is not recommended if you have recently lost a great deal of weight and have loose skin. That is because this procedure is designed to target stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise and works best on areas filled with fatty deposits.

How Does It Work?

Liposuction is performed as day surgery under either local or general anaesthetic. A cannula attached to a suction pump is inserted through a small incision. This is used in a specific pattern through the layer of fat to break fatty deposits, which are then vacuumed out. Any small incisions made are done so in the body’s natural creases where any scarring can stay hidden. Please note that as with any surgery, there are risks and limitations associated with all cosmetic procedures.

Unlike liposuction, CoolTech removes fatty cells using freezing technology, uses no needles and makes no incisions. CoolTech uses computer generated software to freeze your fat to temperatures below –11 degrees for up to 50 minutes. A coolpad is applied on the area to protect the surface of your skin with CoolTech handpieces placed on the target areas. A vacuum process then draws the skin into the handpiece where the machine freezes your fat, triggering a process called apoptosis. Without damaging the surrounding tissue, it’s possible for the operator to use two different applicators simultaneously so your treatment time is more effective. Following the treatment, those unwanted fat cells are slowly absorbed and naturally processed through the lymphatic system where your body’s immune system takes care of the rest. Fat cells removed through Cooltech do not ‘grow back’, however it is still possible to gain weight in this area, so a healthy diet and exercise regime is essential to maintain your results.

What Is The Recovery Like?

After the liposuction procedure you will need time at home to rest, although returning to normal activities is an individual matter. There will be dressings on the wounds, and you may have to wear a compression garment for about 3 weeks to encourage the skin to contract to the new shape. Therefore, liposuction is best scheduled in winter months.

With CoolTech, you miss out on all the risks and downtime of surgery and can resume life immediately after the treatment. The area may be slightly red, bruised and numb afterwards but this goes away once the area returns to its normal body temperature.

What Will The Results Be Like?

Both procedures will give you fat reduction that lasts long term as they both reduce fat permanently from targeted areas; however, the best results are always achieved through realistic expectations of what cosmetic surgery can achieve for you individually.

You’re likely to see immediate results with liposuction, post-surgery once swelling goes down. Usually, the liposuction procedure does not need to be repeated and any excess skin may contract and tighten afterwards with changes continuing to take place up to 6 months after the surgery, delivering dramatic results. In some cases, loose skin does remain. BodyTite, either during or post-liposuction, is often helpful with loose skin.

With CoolTech, you will gradually begin to see the results as your body’s immune system removes the fat. Results can be seen as early as four weeks after the treatment, but your results will peak around the 14-week mark. You might expect to see a 20 – 30% reduction in the treated area per treatment cycle however you’re likely to require at least three sessions in one area.
